My book Getting Results From Crowds was designed as a highly practical overview of how to create value using crowdsourcing. However the last section on Crowd Business Models is perhaps where my deepest interests lie, and is one of the most important issues in the crowd space. Business models are increasingly based on crowds, so we need to understand how to make them work.

As such I wanted to bring together an event to focus attention on crowd business models. I am delighted to be partnering with CrowdConf, the premier crowdsourcing conference in the world, to run a half-day Crowd Business Models Summit immediately preceding CrowdConf at the same venue, UCSF at Mission Bay (where incidentally we also held our Future of Media Summit 2007).

For full event details see the Crowd Business Models Summit website on the CrowdConf site.

The primary intention of the event is to help entrepreneurs as well as larger organizations to successfully design and implement business models based on crowds. We believe that thinking in terms of crowd business models can be highly valuable in identifying the issues that drive success.

There will be two main sessions:

Success Factors in Crowd Business Models
This will look at lessons learned from some of the most interesting and successful crowd ventures on what drives success. Speakers include:
- Kanyi Maqubela, Entrepreneur-in-Residence, Collaborative Fund
- Paul Pluschkell, Founder & CEO, Spigit
- Jordan Ritter, Founder & CTO, Servio
- Aydin Senkut, Founder & Managing Director, Felicis Ventures
(For bios and speaker information see the Summit website)

Future of Crowd Business Models
This will examine where crowd business models are going, where the opportunities lie, and how to seize them. Speakers include:
- Byron Reese, Chief Innovation Officer, Demand Media
- Philip Rosedale, Founder, Coffee and Power
- Tiffany Shlain, Filmmaker & Founder of the Webby Awards, The Moxie Institute, LLC
- Dave Sifry, Founder, Offbeat Guides
(For bios and speaker information see the Summit website)

Each session will include brief presentations from the speakers, audience discussion, and a panel session.

I am very excited to hear what this amazing line-up of speakers has to say on the topic of crowd business models. I hope you can join us.

If you’ve got this far, you deserve the discount code FRIENDS25 for a 25% discount, though the Summit in any case is just $125 full registration.
