Some nice data on the demographics of LinkedIn has just been compiled, shortly after it has reached 100 million users. Notable are the country breakdowns, shown here:

It is interesting to see India and Brazil so highly ranked, while Netherlands, Australia, and Canada, with populations of 17 million and 22 million, and 33 million respectively, have the highest uptake per capita outside the US.

Here is the full slidedeck of the demographic analysis.

Here are a few other highlights from the deck:
* Almost half (47.2%) of members are in North America
* LinkedIn members are predominantly male, most notably in Middle East (77%), Asia (69%), and Africa (65%), but is still 55% in North America
* The most prominent industries are high-tech (16%), finance (13.3%), manufacturing (9.5%), and medical (8.5%)
* The industry balance shifts significantly across continents, with Asia having over 28% in high-tech
* The most prominent roles are sales (12%), admin (10.4%), academic (10.3%), operations (9.7%) and engineering

I was one of the first 10,000 people on LinkedIn, and have closely followed its rise until its recent blockbuster IPO. The demographics above show that it is certainly a global company. However part of its journey ahead is certainly bringing in more diversity.
